Ruth Crawford is a Senior Lecturer in German and International Studies within the Department of Humanities at Nottingham Trent University's School of Arts & Humanities. She serves as Subject Leader for German, overseeing the Joint Honours provision of German language and thematic modules. Her teaching focuses on German, European Studies, and Global Studies.
Her research explores key themes in modern European societies, particularly:
- Family and gender dynamics in East German society
- Representations of identity in East German literature and film
- Contemporary Bosnian literature and post-conflict identity formation
Ruth is actively engaged in promoting German language education beyond the university. She participates in the Midlands German Network, a collaborative initiative involving the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe-Institut, and five Midlands higher education institutions, aimed at strengthening German studies in schools and fostering university-enterprise partnerships for students.
She previously taught at Pennsylvania State University, the College of William and Mary, the University of Memphis, and Philipps-Universität Marburg, bringing extensive international academic experience. Opportunities for postgraduate research under her supervision may be available through the NTU Graduate School in relevant fields.
