Ruth Chambers

Ruth Chambers serves as Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Visual Arts within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina, where she has taught since 1994. Her leadership extends to previous roles as Department Head of Visual Arts and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

Chambers' research manifests through ceramic sculpture and installation art that interrogates materiality and perception. Current porcelain works derived from botanical observation engage with still life traditions to examine beauty and consumption, while earlier projects like Giardino Segreto (2002) deployed porcelain ornamentation to disrupt architectural spaces. Her scholarly focus on contemporary craft theory addresses the epistemological status of making within art discourse.

Her publication trajectory since 2006 reveals evolving engagement with material ontology, particularly in 2017 works analyzing craft knowledge systems. These publications form a cohesive body examining ceramics' theoretical dimensions beyond technical practice.

As Graduate Program Coordinator, Chambers guides thesis research while maintaining active creative output.
