Ruth Beer is a Professor and Assistant Dean of Research in the Audain Faculty of Art at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Her work focuses on interdisciplinary artistic research addressing culture, community, and environmental sustainability through collaborative projects. She leads federally supported SSHRC-funded initiatives such as Mapping Change: Art, Culture and the Environment (2018–present) and Trading Routes: Grease Trails, Oil Pipelines (2013–2018), which explore northern regions and social justice issues. These projects provide student research assistants with collaborative research opportunities.
Her artistic practice spans sculpture, textiles, experimental video, and interactive installations, exhibited globally in venues like the Vancouver Art Gallery and Nordic House in Iceland.
