About
Russell Johnson is a Professor of Biology at Colby College, specializing in plant physiology and molecular biology. He earned his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Washington State University (1989) and a B.A. in Biology from The Colorado College (1984). His office is located in Eustis Hall (Room 203B), and he can be contacted via email at russ.johnson@colby.edu or phone at (207) 859-4776.
Dr. Johnson's research centers on:
- Molecular mechanisms of plant seed germination, dormancy, and development
- Plant responses to environmental stresses, particularly through abscisic acid signaling pathways
- Application of genetic engineering in agricultural biotechnology for crop improvement
His publications predominantly explore hormone signaling in cereal grains, gene expression regulation during seed development, and molecular responses to abiotic stresses. Recent work includes advancements in high-throughput gene expression techniques and sustainable agriculture practices.
