Russell F. Canan serves as a Senior Judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and an Adjunct Professor at The George Washington University Law School. Appointed to the bench in 1993 by President William Jefferson Clinton, he has extensive experience across all court divisions: Criminal, Civil, Family, and Probate.
His judicial leadership includes serving as Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division and chairing key committees:

- Judicial Education Committee
- Jury Management Committee
- Committee on the Selection and Tenure of Magistrate Judges
