Russell Edward Jones (Rusty Jones) is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Oklahoma. He holds a PhD from the University of Oklahoma (2010) and a BA in Philosophy/Biblical Languages from Oklahoma Baptist University (2004). His research focuses on classical Greek philosophy, particularly Plato, Xenophon, and Aristotle, with emphasis on ethics, epistemology, and dialogue analysis. Jones has taught at Harvard University (2010–2019) before returning to OU in 2019.
His academic service includes leading the OU Philosophy Department since 2022 and serving on numerous committees at both OU and Harvard. Jones has supervised several PhD students, including Marcgasser and Patriciamarechal. His work spans edited volumes like The Bloomsbury Companion to Socrates and peer-reviewed articles analyzing Socratic and Platonic dialogues. His research often bridges ancient philosophical texts with contemporary epistemological and ethical debates.
Teaching highlights include courses on ancient philosophy, Greek prose (Thucydides and Plato), and seminars on Plato’s Republic and Aristotle’s De Interpretatione. Jones has presented globally at institutions like Harvard, Yale, and Oxford, focusing on topics such as Socratic pedagogy, Platonic epistemology, and Aristotelian logic.
