Russell Cooper is a Part-time Professor in the Department of Economics at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Italy. He joined the EUI in 2018 and has held prior positions at Yale University, the University of Iowa, Boston University, the University of Texas, and the EUI itself. His research spans macroeconomics, international economics, applied econometrics, industrial organization, experimental economics, firm dynamics, household finance, and monetary policy. Recent work focuses on fiscal policy in monetary unions and exit strategies from such unions, with publications in journals like the Review of Economic Studies and European Economic Review.
Cooper’s research interests include macroeconomic policy design, experimental approaches to economic behavior, and the interplay between monetary systems and fiscal frameworks. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates, including Tancrède Polge, Tuna Abay, and Guido Bongioanni, whose work addresses topics like firm dynamics, household finance, and macroeconometrics.
