Dr. Russell Chander is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) within UNSW's School of Psychiatry. Working under Scientia Professor Perminder Sachdev, his research focuses on neuroimaging methods for diagnosing vascular cognitive impairment and dementia. His multidisciplinary work bridges neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and cognitive aging research.
Dr. Chander investigates social cognition changes in aging populations, neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia, and the impact of social isolation on cognitive health. Recent research includes studies on empathy across the lifespan, genetic influences on social cognition, and network-level brain changes in neurodegenerative disorders. His work on the AusCADASIL study aims to characterize cerebral small vessel disease progression.
Publications appear in neuropsychology, gerontology, and dementia research journals. Current studies examine social cognitive performance in mild cognitive impairment, longitudinal changes in empathy, and neuroimaging correlates of cognitive aging.
