About
Dr. Ruediger Grunwald is a Senior Scientist and Group Leader at the Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy, specializing in ultrafast optics and nanophotonics. His research focuses on spatio-temporal shaping of ultrashort wavepackets, ultrafast nondiffracting optics, and nonlinear spectroscopy of nanomaterials using sub-3-cycle pulse excitation.
Honors include SPIE Fellow membership (2019), Outstanding Reviewer recognition (2020), and the Heinrich Gustav Magnus Award (1982). He leads the DFG project MAXWELL-III developing adaptive optical systems for few-cycle pulse control.
- Pioneered spectral Gouy rotation control in ultrashort vortex pulses
- Developed low-dispersion mirrors for few-cycle laser applications
- Investigated plasmonic-thermal mechanisms in femtosecond nanostructuring
