Rubén García Rubio

Rubén García Rubio serves as Associate Professor of Architecture and Urbanism and Program Director for Sustainable Urbanism at Tulane University's School of Architecture and Built Environment, where he also acts as Faculty Councilor to the Association for Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). He co-founded the architectural practice studioVRA and maintains an active role in both academia and professional design.

His educational credentials include dual PhDs in Architecture: one from the University of Valladolid (awarded Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis distinction) and another from the University of Roma Tre.

Rubén's research centers on sustainable urban development with emphasis on ecological integration through material innovation and user-centered design. His work spans multiple scales from urban planning to building design, exemplified by projects like the Alzheimer's Day Care Center in Benavente that harmonizes architecture with landscape. He advocates for sustainable wood construction and the recovery of traditional building techniques to create context-specific architectural experiences that bridge urban environments with natural systems.

As co-founder of studioVRA, he leads a New Orleans-based practice specializing in sustainable design across urban and building scales. The studio emphasizes client-centered programming and material authenticity, utilizing quality wood species to forge connections between nature and urban life while prioritizing sustainable construction methodologies.
