About
Ruby Bye serves as a Tutor in Science and Humanities within the Department of Lifelong Learning and concurrently as a Research Technician in the Department of Life Sciences at Aberystwyth University.
She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in 2023 through doctoral research titled "Exploring the epigenetic response of Larix kaempferi to Phytophthora ramorum infection," supervised by M. Wilkinson and G. Griffith. Her scholarly foundation integrates plant science with epigenetic mechanisms in forest pathology contexts.
Bye's research specializes in Phytophthora-induced tree diseases, focusing on epigenetic adaptations in larch species. Her work bridges molecular plant pathology with practical forestry management, particularly investigating how epigenetic markers signal early infection stages in Larix kaempferi. This contributes to developing diagnostic protocols for sudden oak death pathogens threatening European forests.
She contributed as Co-Investigator to the South Norway European Office-funded project "Early diagnosis and management of Phytophthora infection of larch and other forestry trees" (January 2018–January 2021), which developed field-deployable detection methods for Phytophthora pathogens across Nordic forestry ecosystems.
