Rubia Dar

Rubia Dar is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, specifically within the Department of Film Studies and Screen Practice Research. With over 20 years of professional experience, she has produced and directed documentaries for major broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Discovery, and National Geographic. Her work focuses on global issues such as mental health, crime, gender-based violence, and racism, emphasizing authentic storytelling through close collaboration with contributors.

Her research explores the impact of the UK's current commissioning freeze on documentary production diversity and funding, alongside projects addressing gender and political dynamics in the global south. She lectures on BA (Hons) Film Production, BA (Hons) Television Production, and MSc in Film and Television Research.

Notable accolades include RTS awards, New York Film Festival nominations, and BAFTA nominations for her documentary projects.
