Roy Foster

Roy Foster is the Carroll Professor of Irish History at the University of Oxford, affiliated with Hertford College since 1991. He holds a unique endowed chair in Irish history in Britain. His academic career includes roles at Trinity College Dublin and Birkbeck College, University of London, alongside visiting fellowships at institutions like Princeton University.

His research focuses on Irish cultural, social, and political history, alongside Victorian political history. He authored the authorized two-volume biography of W.B. Yeats. His work Uncertain Futures (2016) reflects interdisciplinary historical analysis, earning the Morris D. Forkosch Prize.

Roy Foster has received numerous honors, including Fellowships from the British Academy, Royal Historical Society, and Royal Society of Literature, along with multiple honorary degrees.
