Rowan McLachlan

Rowan McLachlan is Adjunct Faculty Instructor at the University of Oregon's Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB). Her interdisciplinary research examines climate change impacts on marine invertebrates across latitudes, from Antarctic seafloors to tropical reefs.

She investigates environmental adaptation mechanisms in corals and polar invertebrates, combining physiological, microbiological, and biogeochemical approaches. Current projects analyze thermal stress responses in corals and Antarctic bryozoan microbiomes.

McLachlan leads documentary initiatives promoting women in science diving, highlighting female researchers working in extreme environments. Her Antarctic diving expeditions study seafloor ecosystems under ice shelves.

She teaches marine biology and oceanography, emphasizing experiential learning through field courses at OIMB.
