Rowan Bailey is Reader in Cultural Theory and Practice at the University of Huddersfield, where she serves as Director of Enterprise and Knowledge Exchange and REF Lead for Art and Design. She holds a PhD in Sculpture and Philosophy from the University of Leeds.
Bailey's research explores place-based thinking through collaborative partnerships in the public realm. Her work combines curatorial practice with critical analysis of cultural ecologies and sculptural plasticity. Key initiatives include the Temporary Contemporary project with Kirklees Council, which creates meanwhile spaces to enhance cultural vibrancy.
Her leadership includes directing the Centre for Cultural Ecologies in Art, Design and Architecture, where she develops place-based research methodologies. She has curated programs like Cultures of Place, showcasing interdisciplinary creative practices across university and community spaces.
