About
Rosa (Rossella) Traversa is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the School of Social Sciences at the University of West Georgia. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Bari, Italy, with research focusing on gender, sexuality, and embodied subjectivity through cultural psychological frameworks.
Traversa explores how bodies become 'texts-of-power' in public/private spheres, examining pleasure-pain dynamics and the 'missing discourse of desire' in psychology. Her current projects investigate visibility and bisexuality beyond binary frameworks, and affectivity rights for people with disabilities. Traversa integrates psycho-semiotic approaches with qualitative methodologies developed during her visiting scholarship at Clark University.
She serves as Associate Editor for Trends in Psychology and contributes to Artslife.com, bridging psychological research with artistic expression. Traversa leads the Queer StoRIes Project, facilitating intergenerational LGBTQ+ dialogue in Rhode Island.
