Ronan Lyons is a Professor of Public Health at Swansea University and holds leadership roles in health data research. He is Director of Health Data Research UK’s Wales and Northern Ireland site and national director for its Improving Public Health theme. His career includes roles as Research Director for Public Health at Health Data Research UK (2018–2021), Director of the National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research (2015–2020), and Adjunct Professor at Monash University (2014).
Key contributions include developing the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) system, a privacy-protecting data platform enabling large-scale population health research. His work addresses injury prevention, public health policy, and pandemic response (e.g., real-time data support during the COVID-19 pandemic for Wales’ Chief Medical Officer).
