About
Ronald Rudin is a Professor of History and Co-Director of the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling at Concordia University, actively contributing to research in oral history, memory, and public heritage. His interdisciplinary work bridges historical scholarship with digital media and public engagement.
His research focuses on oral history, cultural memory, and heritage representation, particularly in Acadian and Canadian contexts. He explores how communities remember and forget the past, and how historical narratives are shaped in public spaces, museums, and digital platforms. His work critically examines the politics of memory, especially in post-industrial and divided urban landscapes.
Rudin has received significant recognition, including being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and winning an award for his book Remembering and Forgetting in Acadie. His research has also been supported by a fellowship from the Trudeau Foundation.
He has been involved in research-creation projects such as the multimedia documentary Three Grey Nuns, and has contributed to public programming on urban heritage, including sessions on contested pasts and industrial memory. As Academic Convenor for the 2010 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, he has played a leadership role in advancing public humanities scholarship.
Rudin is affiliated with the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling, where he collaborates on interdisciplinary projects that combine archival research, digital media, and community engagement to explore lost or marginalized histories.
