Ronald D Schrimpf is the Orrin H. Ingram Professor of Engineering and holds joint appointments in Electrical Engineering and Materials Science at Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering. He founded the Institute for Space and Defense Electronics (ISDE) in 2002, leading its mission to apply radiation effects and reliability research to practical industry and governmental challenges. His group is the largest of its kind in the U.S. Schrimpf has served as Faculty Head of House for Memorial House in Vanderbilt’s residential college program.
Education: Ph.D., M.S.E.E., and B.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
Research Focus: Semiconductor device physics, radiation effects in microelectronics, reliability engineering, and simulation tools. He leads the Air Force Center of Excellence in Radiation Effects.
- Awards: Chancellor’s Cup (2010), Harvey Branscomb Award (2008-09), Teaching Excellence (2008), Research Chancellor’s Award (2003), IEEE NPSS Merit (2021), and 11 outstanding paper awards.
- Grants/Leadership: Principal Investigator for Air Force Radiation Effects Center, ISDE founder and director (2002–present).
