Ron Holmes serves as Head Coach of the University of Central Missouri (UCM) Women's Bowling Program entering his 35th season overall and 24th as varsity head coach in 2024-25. He concurrently holds academic and administrative roles as Lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Education and Human Services and Coordinator of Athletic Special Events & Camps for the Department of Athletics.
Holmes earned his Bachelor's (1990) and Master's (1992) degrees in Physical Education, Exercise, and Sports Science at UCM. His academic career began as a full-time Instructor of Health Education (1992-2001) before transitioning to coaching while maintaining teaching responsibilities.
Holmes' professional focus centers on elite athlete development through disciplined coaching methodology and academic integration. His program consistently competes against top-ranked teams across divisions, emphasizing mental resilience during roster transitions and strategic scheduling for championship preparation. The approach has established UCM as a national bowling powerhouse with sustained competitive excellence.
Holmes has received eight Coach of the Year awards and recognition as one of Bowler's Journal International's Top 100 Coaches (2006-2010). His leadership produced 42 All-American athletes, 82 Academic All-Americans, and 11 national team representatives. The program maintains team GPAs above 3.30 for 15 consecutive seasons while competing for national titles.
As a mentor, Holmes guides student-athletes through rigorous academic-athletic balancing, with 13 women earning GLVC All-Academic honors in 2019-20 alone. His teams consistently achieve dual excellence, exemplified by NCAA Elite 89 Award winner Carly Thomas and multiple Academic All-American cohorts.
The UCM Women's Bowling program operates under Holmes' comprehensive leadership model, combining NCAA championship-caliber competition with structured academic support. The team hosts conference tournaments at local venues like Alley Cats Bowling Center while traveling nationally to prepare for championship environments, maintaining its status as a perennial contender since varsity inception in 2001.
