Ron Gimbel

Ron Gimbel is a Professor and Director of Clemson Rural Health at Clemson University’s College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences. He served as Department Head of Public Health Sciences from 2014 to 2021. His leadership focuses on reducing disparities in rural health through mobile clinics, telehealth, and remote monitoring technologies.

Dr. Gimbel’s research bridges health services research, medical informatics, and population health. His work spans diabetes, asthma, lung cancer, radiology, and emergency medicine, emphasizing technology-driven interventions and interdisciplinary collaboration.

His publications highlight trends in leveraging digital health tools (e.g., mobile apps, speech recognition, CT imaging AI) to address clinical challenges. He critiques EHR efficacy and explores cost and liability factors in diagnostic imaging.

Dr. Gimbel mentors graduate students and leads sponsored projects advancing Clemson Rural Health’s mission. He has taught courses like Clinical & Translational Science and Health Information Systems. His team develops the SC Rural Primary Care Research Network for clinical and population-health research in underserved areas.
