Romulo Colindres

Romulo Colindres, MD, MSPH is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. His office is located at 7024 Burnett-Womack in Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Colindres earned his medical degree from the University of El Salvador, completed residency training at the State University of NY and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed his Nephrology fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

His primary research interests focus on the epidemiology of kidney disease, hypertension, and fluid and electrolyte metabolism. Dr. Colindres actively participates in observational and clinical studies related to acute and chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and cardiovascular complications in subjects with kidney disease. His work demonstrates a strong emphasis on infectious disease epidemiology in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly regarding influenza, rotavirus, pneumococcal disease, and other vaccine-preventable conditions.

Analysis of his publication record shows a consistent focus on systematic reviews and meta-analyses examining disease burden across Latin America and the Caribbean, with particular expertise in vaccine-related research including herpes zoster, influenza, and rotavirus vaccines.
