About
Rominder Suri is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Temple University's College of Engineering, where he also serves as Director of the Water and Environmental Technology Center (WET Center). His work bridges academic research and industrial applications in water treatment and environmental sustainability.
His research focuses on emerging contaminants, advanced oxidation processes (including sonolysis, ozonation, UV, and photocatalysis), industrial waste treatment, absorption/desorption, and life cycle assessment. He investigates the degradation of persistent pollutants such as PFAS, heavy metals, and antibiotic resistance genes using innovative reactor designs and process combinations.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend in environmental remediation technologies, particularly the application of electrooxidation, ultrasonic degradation, and sorption mechanisms for urban stormwater and wastewater. These studies emphasize process optimization, matrix effects, and the fate of contaminants in complex environmental systems.
Scientific Contributions:
- Development of advanced oxidation techniques for PFAS degradation.
- Use of low-cost sorbents for heavy metal and PAH removal from stormwater.
- Integration of artificial neural networks for modeling and cost prediction in water treatment.
- Investigation of contaminant partitioning and toxicity in urban watersheds.
Dr. Suri leads the Water and Environmental Technology Center (WET Center), which conducts research funded by federal and state agencies as well as private industry. His work supports both academic training and practical engineering solutions. He mentors students through research projects and teaches key courses such as Water/Wastewater Lab (CEE 4722) and Advanced Physical/Chemical Treatment Processes (CEE 8701).
The lab’s focus on reactor engineering and process integration positions it at the forefront of sustainable water technology development, with future work likely targeting scalable, energy-efficient treatment systems for emerging pollutants.
