About
Romby Pascale serves as Director of the CNRS Unit UPR 9002 ("Architecture and Reactivity of ARN") at IBMC, Strasbourg since 2016, and leads the "Bacterial regulatory RNAs and mRNAs" research team since 2004. Affiliated with the University of Strasbourg's Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC), Pascale has maintained continuous research activity at this institution since 1987 after completing doctoral studies there.
Research focuses on fundamental mechanisms of RNA-mediated gene regulation in bacteria, with emphasis on:
- Roles of RNA-binding proteins in bacterial gene expression
- Identification and functional analysis of regulatory RNAs
- Regulatory networks governing stress responses, metabolic adaptation, and virulence
- Translation control mechanisms and host-pathogen interactions
Major recognition includes the prestigious Pasteur Medal (2018) and Langevin Prize (2010) from the French Academy of Sciences, along with multiple CNRS medals. Editorial leadership spans journals including RNA Biology, Pathogens and Diseases, and Biochimie.
Administrative service includes membership on INSERM's CSS1 section (2016-2020), CNRS Section 21 (2008-2012), and the ITMO BCMS scientific committee. International engagement features over 45 invited seminars across Europe and North America, plus organization of the Jacques Monod Conferences on RNA regulation.
