About
Dr. Roman Belli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Winnipeg, affiliated with the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex. He holds a B.Sc. (2014) from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. (2019) from the University of Victoria. His postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota (2020–2024) focused on early transition metal catalysis and N-heterocyclic aryne chemistry.
Education:
- B.Sc. Hons., University of Toronto – St. George (2014)
- Ph.D., University of Victoria (2019)
Research Interests: The Belli Group develops sustainable chemical processes to replace toxic agents in industrial synthesis. Key areas include chlorine-free functionalization of main group elements (P, Si, Ge) using photocatalysis/mechanochemistry and metal-nitrenium chemistry for atom-efficient N–C bond formation in pharmaceutical/chemical contexts.
Advising & Labs: Manages research laboratory 3RC033. Current research explores environmentally benign synthesis pathways and novel catalytic systems. No listed advisees yet.
