About
Dr. Roland Mühlenbernd is a Senior Researcher in the DFG project A05 'Modeling meaning-driven register variation' at Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics (ZAS), affiliated with the CRC 1412 Research Area 4 'Semantics & Pragmatics'. His work employs evolutionary game theory to model how individual communicative choices shape social conventions in language, particularly in semantic change and pragmatic reasoning across registers.
He completed his PhD in General Linguistics at the University of Tübingen in 2013. His current research examines the social meanings of (im)precision through game-theoretic models and experimental approaches. Recent publications investigate emotional characteristics in cooperative behavior and mechanisms of linguistic diversification. He serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Slavic Linguistics and Journal of Historical Syntax.
