Rohit De is Associate Professor of History and Research Scholar in Law at Yale University, specializing in South Asian legal history and comparative constitutionalism. His award-winning book 'A People's Constitution' examines how ordinary citizens engaged with India's constitutional framework.
Current research funded by a Carnegie Fellowship investigates 'Rights from the Left', tracing how lawyers from Asia and Africa developed transnational human rights frameworks during decolonization. His scholarship combines archival research with legal analysis to explore constitutional culture, anti-colonial lawyering, and postcolonial state formation.
Professor De has consulted on constitutional reform projects in Nepal and Sri Lanka while teaching courses on South Asian history, global legal history, and constitutional theory. His work has received the Willard C Hurst Prize and Heyman Humanities Prize.
