Rohan Sweeney

Rohan Sweeney is an Associate Professor (Research) at Monash University's Centre for Health Economics within the Monash Business School. He is an ARC DECRA Fellow specializing in the economics of health and wellbeing for disadvantaged populations in the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on health-aid effectiveness and climate change impacts on health. He leads and collaborates on international projects addressing climate resilience, health service delivery, and development effectiveness in countries like Indonesia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.

His research has secured approximately $1.9M in NHMRC and ARC funding, contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives such as the RISE project and the Global Health Economics Melbourne (GHEM) group. He co-leads the Global and Environmental Health Economics Theme at the Centre for Health Economics.

Rohan has received awards including the Alan Williams Fellowship (2015), Mollie Holman Award (2015), and the Monash Business School Dean's Award for Excellence in Research (2021). His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly poverty reduction, climate action, and health security.

Recent projects include improving climate adaptation strategies in at-risk communities, evaluating mental wellbeing costs of extreme weather, and optimizing smoking cessation support for individuals with mental health conditions. He actively engages in policy discussions to enhance aid effectiveness and health equity globally.
