Rohan Peter Alexander

Rohan Peter Alexander is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Faculty of Information and the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. He serves as Assistant Director of the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) Ontario, a senior fellow at Massey College, and a faculty affiliate at the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society. His research focuses on improving the trustworthiness and reproducibility of data science workflows, with an emphasis on data gathering, cleaning, and ethical practices.

Dr. Alexander holds a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University, focusing on economic history. He teaches courses such as Experimental Design for Data Science and Worlds Become Data, and supervises graduate students. He is the co-founder of The Data Workshop, a seminar series fostering collaboration between academia and industry in data science best practices.

His work spans computational social science, Bayesian methods, and text analysis. Notable contributions include the book Telling Stories with Data, which emphasizes reproducible workflows and ethical considerations. He has secured grants for projects on political accountability, climate health disparities, and lobbying data transparency.

Key initiatives include leading CANSSI Ontario’s efforts to advance statistical sciences and co-chairing the Data Sciences Institute’s Reproducibility Program. His research has been featured in journals like Scientometrics, Journal of Economic History, and Prx Quantum.
