Roger Simm is a Professor and currently serves as Head of Department at the Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo (since 2023). Previously, he was Head of Department at the Institute of Oral Biology (2021-2023) and held the position of Associate Professor there from 2017-2022. His academic journey includes postdoctoral positions at Radiumhospitalet, School of Pharmacy at UiO, and MTC, Karolinska Institutet, where he also completed his PhD in 2007.
Professor Simm's research focuses on understanding the dynamics of bacterial host colonization and infection, with particular emphasis on three key areas: the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance in bacterial communities; host-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions that determine bacterial colonization and pathogenicity; and the regulation of bacterial biofilms and concomitant evolution of antimicrobial resistance.
