About
Sir Roger Penrose is a prominent Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, renowned for groundbreaking contributions to theoretical physics and cosmology. He is a Nobel laureate in Physics (2020) for his proof of black hole existence under Einstein’s relativity, alongside Stephen Hawking. His work includes singularity theorems, cyclic cosmology ('Aeons Before The Big Bang'), and investigations into consciousness via quantum processes.
- Affiliations: University of Oxford (Mathematics Department), Foreign Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1994.
Research interests focus on gravitational singularities, quantum gravity, and the intersection of physics and philosophy. His books, such as *The Emperor’s New Mind* and *Shadows of the Mind*, explore computational limits of the brain and consciousness.
Awards: Nobel Prize (2020), Wolf Prize, and numerous honorary degrees.
Legacy: Collaborated with Stephen Hawking on relativity singularities, pioneered twistor theory, and contributed to Penrose–Hawking theorems. Visited Łódź University in 2010 to deliver a public lecture on cosmological cycles.
