Roger Levy

Dr. Roger Levy is affiliated with the University of Hertfordshire, where he is part of the Schools of Law and Education, and also associated with the Centre for Research in Professional and Work-Related Learning and the Centre for Future Societies Research. He holds a PhD in HEI-School partnership in PGCE courses awarded on 2 April 2001, along with a BA (Hons) in History from The University of Manchester and an MA in Curriculum Studies from the Institute of Education, University of London.

Roger Levy's research interests focus on teacher/educator professional learning and development, work-based learning, doctoral education, induction and early career development of educators, mentoring strategies, curriculum design and evaluation. He emphasizes supporting professional learning through collaborative inquiry processes and enhancing the capacity of partner organizations. His work also explores internationalization strategies in higher education institutions (HEIs), including strategic foresight and the mobility of health professionals in Europe. Additionally, he investigates the ethical role of corporate lawyers in education and how educators prepare them for professional responsibilities.

His research activity includes leading projects such as evaluations for public sector organizations like Local Authorities and the Teacher Development Agency. More recently, he has been involved in projects like Experiences of an online learning programme of alternative provision for disengaged students (2023-2025) and Developing Doctoral Practice in Shanghai universities (2018-2022). These projects reflect his engagement in fostering professional development in diverse educational contexts, including transnational collaborations and addressing challenges in early years education for children with autism spectrum disorder.

Narrative on advising and grants: Levy has supervised doctoral research on topics such as course evaluation in Sanda University's English extension classes and the experiences of teachers in early career stages. He has led significant research projects, including those funded by external bodies, demonstrating his expertise in securing and managing grants. These projects often involve partnerships with institutions and organizations, highlighting his collaborative approach to advancing educational practices.

Labs/teams involvement: He is actively involved with the International Professional Development Association (IPDA), serving as Co-Vice Chair from January to December 2018. He also contributed to the East of England Consortium’s initiative to develop a Masters in Teaching and Learning program (2009-2010). His work frequently involves interdisciplinary teams, such as collaborations with researchers like Dickerson, Jarvis, and Thomas, focusing on teacher education and professional development frameworks.
