Rodrigo Schmidt

Rodrigo Schmidt is an Assistant Professor of Biology at East Texas Baptist University's School of Natural and Social Sciences, specializing in cardiovascular research and autonomic nervous system modulation. With over 20 years of teaching experience across undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, he focuses on Human Anatomy and Physiology while integrating a perspective of intelligent design in his pedagogy. His DoD-funded work on Gulf War Illness (GWI) mouse models led to clinical trials and novel treatment approaches for GWI patients.

• Education: Ph.D. in Cardiology from the Heart Institute (InCor), University of São Paulo Medical School, Brazil

Research Focus: Investigates autonomic nervous system responses through heart rate variability analysis and develops methodologies for autonomic modulation. His work bridges biomedical research and clinical translational studies in GWI and cardiovascular pathophysiology.
