Rodrigo Gratacós Brum is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of the Arts at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He holds an MA in Philosophy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and an MFA in Film, Video, New Media, and Animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Prior to joining AUC, he served as a Lecturer at the Media Design Department of the German University in Cairo, where he taught Film, Media Installation, and Speculative Design.

His research interests include Third Cinema, Film aesthetics, Media and visual studies, and the use of Film as research and Film and education. Currently, Brum is developing his first feature documentary, Like Someone Who Hears a Very Sad Song, filmed in the Cape Verdean archipelago, where he resided for nearly a year. In Cairo, he co-founded A Kiss in the Desert, a production company dedicated to amplifying emerging Egyptian filmmakers.
