Rodrigo França, DDS, MS, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. He holds cross-appointments in the Department of Oral Biology and the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program, while also serving as a core member of the Manitoba Institute for Materials. His academic journey includes degrees from the University of Itauna (DDS), University of São Paulo (MSc, PhD in Dental Materials), and a second PhD in Biomedical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal.

Dr. França’s research focuses on dental biomaterials, including surface analysis of restorative materials, dental adhesion mechanisms, and magnetic nano-devices for chronic disease treatment. He investigates endotoxin adhesion, 3D bioprinting for neural and periodontal regeneration, and advanced fabrication techniques for dental prosthetics. His work spans materials development, biocompatibility testing, and environmental safety assessments of dental materials.
His recent publications highlight innovations in 3D bioprinting for tissue engineering, improvements in resin-dentin bonding, and the use of nanoparticle-based coatings in food preservation. He also explores surface characterization methods like XPS and LA-ICP-MS to enhance biomaterial performance.
Dr. França leads the Dental Biomaterials Research Laboratory, contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations between dentistry and biomedical engineering. He is affiliated with the Academy of Dental Materials, Canadian Association of Dental Research, and Canadian Biomaterials Association.
