Rodney DeKoter

Rodney DeKoter is a Professor at Western University, affiliated with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. His research focuses on transcription factors like PU.1, Spi-B, and Spi-C, studying their roles in immune system diseases such as leukemia and primary immunodeficiency. He holds a PhD from Western University and conducted postdoctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Chicago.

DeKoter's lab investigates gene mutations disrupting transcription factors in B lymphocytes and myeloid cells. Key areas include B cell development, myeloid differentiation, and the molecular mechanisms underlying blood disorders. His work employs genetically modified mouse models, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and gene expression analysis.

His research has led to grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. Recent findings include the role of EZH2 inhibition in B cell viral mimicry and the impact of Janus kinase mutations in leukemia.

Current students include James Iasavitchous, Chanpreet Riarh, and Trevor Day. The lab also collaborates on projects involving metabolic regulation in myeloid cells and transcription factor interactions in immune cell lineage decisions.
