Roderick B Walker

Professor Roderick B. Walker is a Professor of Pharmaceutics and Head of Research at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Rhodes University. He holds a BPharm and PhD from Rhodes University. His research focuses on formulation development, drug delivery systems (including nanocarriers), and Quality by Design principles. Key areas include extended-release formulations for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, pediatric drug delivery, and regulatory sciences.

Research projects include niosome formulations, smart gels, and lipid nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery. He has authored over 130 publications, with recent work on nanomedicine applications for cancer and infectious diseases. Awards include the Distinguished Teacher of the Year (2000) and Academic Pharmacist of the Year (2019).

Professor Walker has supervised numerous PhD and MSc students, with projects ranging from antiretroviral nano-crystals to taste-masked pediatric formulations. He holds grants such as the South Africa–India NRF Research Grant (2016–2018). Professional affiliations include the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council.
