Rocio Perez

Dr. Rocio Perez serves as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics at the College of Science and Mathematics, Georgia Southern University. Her office is located in the Statesboro Chemistry & Nursing Building, Room 3216B.

Her educational background includes:

• B.S. from Rosario National University (2011)
• Ph.D. from Rosario Chemistry Institute (2016)

Dr. Perez's research is centered on advanced materials, particularly Ionic Liquids and GUMBOS (Group of Uniform Materials Based on Organic Salts). She develops NanoGUMBOS for selective cancer therapeutics and investigates damage healing in polymer composites. Additionally, she creates innovative sensor arrays for applications in food safety, pathogen detection, and environmental monitoring.

Her 2020 publications demonstrate interdisciplinary convergence across analytical chemistry, nanomedicine, and biomaterials engineering. Key trends include GUMBOS-based cancer therapeutics, ionic liquid composites for VOC sensing, fluorescence sensor arrays for protein analysis, and antimicrobial biomaterial composites for infection control.
