About
Dr. Robyn Meech is an Associate Professor in Pharmacology at Flinders University, affiliated with the College of Medicine and Public Health and the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute. She holds a BSc, BSc (Hons), and PhD from Flinders University. Her research focuses on homeobox genes, Wnt signaling pathways, cancer stem cells, and drug metabolism, particularly UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs).
Education:
- Bachelor of Science, Flinders University, 1991
- BSc (Hons), Flinders University, 1992
- PhD in Clinical Pharmacology, Flinders University, 1997
Research Interests:
Dr. Meech's work explores the role of Barx homeobox genes in muscle development and cancer stem cells, Wnt effector pathways in stem cell function, and the deregulation of UGT enzymes in cancer. She investigates mechanisms linking genetic regulation to disease, with applications in drug metabolism and cancer therapy. Her NIH-funded research on Barx2 in muscle regeneration and collaborations with the Scripps Research Institute highlight her international impact.
Awards:
- Peter Meffin Memorial Prize (1993)
- Skaggs Research Fellowship (2002)
Grants & Collaborations:
Recipient of 3 NIH grants, including an ongoing R01 grant shared with TSRI. Maintains collaborations in Australia and overseas, focusing on cancer stem cells and UGT pathways. Research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Labs & Teams:
Active in Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute, leading studies on drug metabolism, cancer biology, and stem cell signaling. Supervises postgraduate students and mentors researchers in her lab.
