Her research bridges literary analysis with food studies, examining culinary practices as cultural resistance. Current projects explore gendered violence and female resistance in post-earthquake Haitian fiction, including the legacy of maroonage in 21st-century narratives.
Selected publications highlight her expertise in Haitian diasporic literature, Caribbean feminism, and food politics. Key themes include Edwidge Danticat’s trauma narratives, culinary imperialism in Reunion Island, and maroon-inspired resistance in post-disaster literature. Her book The Pen and the Pan (2021) integrates food studies with Caribbean feminist theory.
Professor Cope earned her PhD from Florida State University, MEd from Xavier University, and BA from Miami University. Her teaching emphasizes postcolonial literatures, migration narratives, and the legacy of racialized slavery in the Caribbean context.
