Robin Metcalfe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Science, Technology and Society at York University, within the Faculty of Science. She teaches courses such as Astronomy, History of Astronomy, Space Flight and Exploration, and Physics for World Leaders, which was recognized as one of York’s “Cool Courses” in MacLean’s 2015 rankings. Her research focuses on extragalactic astronomy, specifically the formation of galaxy sheets like the Local Sheet containing the Milky Way, utilizing data from observatories worldwide. She emphasizes student engagement and science literacy in her teaching.
Research interests include the history of astronomy, aerospace, and the societal implications of physics and technology. Her work bridges scientific inquiry with educational outreach, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
