Robin L. Jump, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is affiliated with the Department of Educational Programs in Clinical Research at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. His research focuses on preventing Clostridium difficile infections in long-term care facility (LTCF) residents, investigating colonization resistance mechanisms disrupted by antimicrobial use.
Education includes a BS in Microbiology & Biochemistry from Colorado State University (1995), followed by a PhD/MD from Case Western Reserve University’s Medical Scientist Training Program (2004). Clinical training includes residencies in Internal Medicine (2007) and Infectious Diseases (2009) at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Research is supported by grants from the National Institute of Aging (R03 via GEMSSTAR) and the Steris Foundation. His work earned the 2011 Young Investigator Award in Geriatrics. Key areas include nosocomial pathogens such as MRSA, VRE, and multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, alongside HIV prevention through topical entry inhibitors.
He contributes to VA Medical Center educational programs and has published extensively on C. difficile pathogenesis, environmental decontamination, and antibiotic efficacy. His research bridges clinical practice and translational science to improve infection control strategies in vulnerable populations.
