Robert W. Barnes

Robert W. Barnes is an Associate Professor and Arthur H. Feagin Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Auburn University, where he also serves as the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies. His research focuses on structural concrete, prestressed concrete, bridge engineering, and structural strengthening techniques.

• Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas-Austin; B.S. in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Recent research trends highlight his work on concrete creep/shrinkage, FRP reinforcement, strut-and-tie methods for deep beams, and time-dependent deformations in prestressed systems. His Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research (ACI) underscores his contributions to structural engineering. Barnes is actively involved in graduate advising and laboratory initiatives, including the Advanced Structural Engineering Laboratory.
