Robert Van Gulick

Robert Van Gulick is Professor of Philosophy at Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences, where he directs the Cognitive Science Program. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and specializes in philosophy of mind and philosophy of psychology, with particular focus on consciousness, reduction, emergence, and mental causation.

Van Gulick's research examines fundamental questions about subjective experience within naturalistic frameworks. His work bridges philosophical analysis with cognitive science perspectives on mental phenomena.

Honors include two NEH Fellowships and the William P. Tolley Distinguished Professorship in Humanities. Van Gulick has served as President of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology and participates in university governance through multiple committees.
