Robert St. George

Robert St. George is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts & Sciences. He specializes in transculturation, material culture, and colonial studies, with a focus on North America, England, Ireland, and Iceland. He teaches courses on early American cultural history, public culture, and American vernacular architecture. His academic journey includes degrees from Hamilton College (A.B., 1976), the Winterthur Program (M.A., 1978), and the University of Pennsylvania (M.A., 1980; Ph.D., 1982).

He directs the Program in Public Culture in Penn’s Master of Liberal Arts curriculum and contributes to graduate programs in Folklore and Historic Preservation. His current projects include a book on material cultures and social changes in the long eighteenth century.
