Robert Smallwood

Robert Smallwood is a Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University's Institute of Policing, where he contributes to the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, Degree Holder Entry Programme, and Detective Constable Degree Holder Entry Programme. With a 33-year policing career at Derbyshire Constabulary (1983–2016), he transitioned to academia in 2017, holding leadership roles in policing education at the University of Derby and Sheffield Hallam University before joining Staffordshire University.

His expertise centers on Workplace Learning and Assessment, Policing Culture, and Police Education. He holds a MSc in Training (Leicester University), PGCertHE (University of Derby), PGCE (Nottingham Trent University), and a BA (Hons) Music (Keele University).

Notable recognitions include a commendation for heroic actions during the 1989 M1 Kegworth air disaster and fellowships with the Higher Education Academy and Society for Education and Training. His research interests focus on institutional policing culture and educational methodologies in law enforcement.
