Robert Schwoch

Robert Schwoch serves as a Lecturer and Undergraduate Advisor at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he leverages over 30 years of professional experience in journalism and political communication. He acts as SJMC's primary academic advisor for undergraduates while teaching courses in media strategy, sports communication, and literary journalism.

His professional expertise spans sports reporting at The Milwaukee Journal, political analysis in the Wisconsin State Legislature (where he uniquely headed both Democratic and Republican legislative staffs), and advocacy work as Director of Public Affairs at the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. These experiences directly inform his teaching in media strategy and political communication.

Robert Schwoch advises all undergraduate students in SJMC and contributes to curriculum development through faculty committees. Outside academia, he co-founded the Newcastle United-focused soccer blog "I Wish I Was A Geordie" where he serves as writer and podcaster, reflecting his passion for sports journalism. He maintains primary residency in Milwaukee with his husband Hal while commuting to Madison for academic duties.
