Robert Painter is a Teaching Professor and Assistant Program Director in the Department of Linguistics at Northeastern University’s College of Science. Trained in phonetics and historical linguistics at the University at Buffalo, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Greek and Latin from Colby College and a Master’s in Latin Literature from St Andrews University. As a general linguist, he teaches courses ranging from Morphology to Sociolinguistics, while maintaining a passion for classical languages and endangered language preservation.
- Publications: Author of Faroe-Islander Saga: A New English Translation (2016).
- Research Focus: Bridges historical linguistics, phonetics, and fieldwork on endangered languages like Scottish Gaelic.
He leads a Dialogue of Civilizations program in Scotland focused on language endangerment and Gaelic fieldwork.
