Robert Kilpatrick is a Professor of French and Director of the School of Humanities at the University of West Georgia (UWG). He holds a B.A. in French and History from Truman State University (1999), and M.A. and Ph.D. in French Literature from Indiana University (2001, 2009), with a minor in Italian Literature. His research focuses on Renaissance French and Neo-Latin literature, early modern theories of rhetoric, and humanism. In pedagogy, he develops proficiency-based assessment tools and explores instructional technologies for language learning.
He teaches courses in French language, culture, film, and literature, including La chanson francaise, Portraits of Paris, and French film internships. He has directed study abroad programs in France, including IU’s program in St Brieuc and UWG’s program in Tours. His career includes teaching French and Italian at Indiana University and French at Duke University.
Recent teaching responsibilities include Elementary French, Intermediate French, and the Senior Capstone. He has led courses virtually and in-person, emphasizing cultural immersion and digital pedagogy.
