About
Professor Robert Hudson is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario, specializing in bio-organic chemistry, oligonucleotide analogs, and fluorescent nucleic acid probes. He has served as Chair of the Department of Chemistry since 2023.
His research integrates synthetic organic chemistry with biochemistry, focusing on peptide nucleic acids (PNA) and nucleobase-modified DNA/RNA. Recent work explores fluorescent analogs for sequence-specific detection and G-quadruplex-RNA modulation in human cells.
Selected Publications highlight advancements in nucleobase engineering, fluorescent molecular rotors, and intrinsic quenchers for biological applications, reflecting his group's emphasis on organic synthesis and chemical biology tools.
Scientific Awards include the
- CNC-IUPAC Award (2004)
- President's Occupational Health & Safety Award (2008)
- USC Bank of Nova Scotia Alumni Teaching Award (2009-2010)
- Faculty Scholar (2010-2012)
- Teaching Honour Roll (2006-2007)
His lab group includes graduate and undergraduate researchers, with alumni pursuing careers in academia, medicine, and pharmaceuticals. Labs are located in Chemistry Building 200, 201, and 221.
